During my attendance at the American Sociological Association this past August (see blog entry 1 and 2), I received the great new of having been accepted to present a paper at The Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration on march 28 next year.
This is a great opportunity to showcase my results from my research on the lived experiences of migration of mexican deported men housed in temporary male-exclsuive migrant shelters in Tijuana -current focus and object of my PhD thesis.
The Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration (CERC Migration) is the first ever CERC awarded to Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), building on the university’s strengths and commitments in the area of immigration and settlement studies.
The CERC in Migration and Integration is led by Professor Anna Triandafyllidou. The program is producing innovative and usable knowledge on the links between migration and post-migration processes, forced and voluntary mobility, internal and international migration, and the role of countries of origin and transit. CERC Migration pays special attention to Canadian realities while also engaging in comparative research with and among other countries in various global regions.
The federal Canada Excellence Research Chairs program is among the most prestigious and generous programs available globally, enabling universities to build on Canada's growing reputation as a leader in research and innovation. The program recognizes and supports world-renowned researchers and their teams with up to $10 million over seven years to establish ambitious research programs at Canadian universities.
The CERC program is a Tri-agency initiative of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and is administered by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS).
Toronto Metropolitain University announced the appointment of Professor Triandafyllidou to the CERC in Migration and Integration in April 2019.
And here is Dr. Tirandafyllidou's introductory remarks on CERC Migration.
What an honor it is to have this opportunity to present my research with such a talented and birght group of scholars. I am very much looking forward to the opportunity.
